Human Rights and Environmental Policy

We, CRYSTAL DIRECT TRADING (PTY) LTD, are committed to respecting and promoting human rights and environmental sustainability in all our operations and activities. We recognize that human rights and environmental protection are interrelated and mutually reinforcing, and that our business has an impact and a responsibility towards both.

We adhere to the following international standards and principles:

  • The Ethical Trading Initiative Base Code, which sets out the minimum labour standards expected of our suppliers and contractors, based on the conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO).
  • The relevant UN and ILO Conventions, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Convention on Biological Diversity, and the Paris Agreement on climate change.
  • The UN Global Compact, which is a voluntary initiative that encourages businesses to align their strategies and operations with ten universal principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.

We strive to implement these standards and principles in our business practices by:

  • Conducting human rights and environmental due diligence to identify, prevent, mitigate and account for any actual or potential adverse impacts of our activities on people and the planet.
  • Engaging with our stakeholder, including our employees, customers, suppliers, contractors, communities, civil society organizations, governments and regulators, to communicate our policy commitments, expectations and performance, and to seek their feedback and input.
  • Providing access to effective remedies for any individuals or groups who may be affected by our activities, through internal or external grievance mechanisms or judicial or non-judicial processes.
  • Supporting initiatives and projects that contribute to the protection and promotion of human rights and environmental sustainability, such as education, health, social inclusion, biodiversity conservation, renewable energy and climate action.
  • Monitoring and reporting on our human rights and environmental performance, using relevant indicators and benchmarks, and disclosing our progress and challenges in a transparent and accountable manner.

We expect all our employees, suppliers, contractors and business partners to comply with this policy and to uphold our values of respect, integrity, excellence and innovation. We provide training and guidance to our staff on how to implement this policy in their daily work. We also conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.

We review this policy periodically to ensure its relevance and effectiveness. We welcome any suggestions or comments on how we can improve our human rights and environmental performance. Please contact us at hr@crystaldirect.co.za if you have any questions or concerns.
